Deleting your account and data
You can delete your Varuno account and data entirely from inside the app. The dedicated page at Delete your account walks through it step by step; this article summarises what actually happens.
The steps
- In the app: Settings → Danger Zone → Delete account.
- Type the confirmation and re-authenticate — deletion is deliberately hard to trigger by accident.
- Server side: a deletion service removes your account (the authentication user and your profile row — name, country, base currency).
- Device side: the vault is destroyed key first, then the database file. The order matters: even if the process were interrupted in between, what remains is unreadable ciphertext, not your data.
Documents you chose to keep, and any import working files, live in the app’s private storage — they are removed with the app, or individually beforehand via Settings → Data → Local Storage.
Before you delete
Deletion is permanent, and there is no cloud copy of your finances to recover from. If you may want the data later, export a backup first and store it carefully.
Timelines and edge cases
- How long residual server-side records (such as the provider’s own backups) persist after deletion depends on details still being confirmed — the current statement is:
[DELETION_TIMELINES_REQUIRED]. We will publish concrete timelines rather than guess. - If you cannot sign in to delete your account, a manual process is being defined. Until the dedicated support address (
[SUPPORT_EMAIL_REQUIRED]) is live, use the contact form and choose “Account problem”. - If deletion fails with an error after you confirm, it is usually a network or service outage — try again online, and contact support with the time (UTC) if it persists.
