Face ID and passcode lock

Varuno has an app lock that is separate from both your phone’s lock screen and your account password.

Setting it up

  1. Settings → Security → set an app passcode. The passcode is strengthened with key-derivation before storage.
  2. With a passcode set, you can enable Face ID (or Touch ID). Enabling it asks you to re-authenticate first.

How the pieces relate

  • App passcode — the base lock. Always available as a fallback.
  • Face ID — a convenience on top of the passcode; it unlocks the app session.
  • Account password — proves who you are to the account service. Biometrics never replace it; sensitive actions (like account deletion) still require re-authentication.

Behaviour you will notice

  • Auto-lock after inactivity, and a privacy cover hides your data in the app switcher.
  • Sensitive actions ask again. Dangerous operations require fresh authentication even mid-session.
  • Face ID stopped working and the passcode is demanded? When the fingerprints or face enrolled on the device change, Varuno invalidates biometric unlock on purpose, so a newly enrolled face cannot open your data. Re-enable Face ID in Settings → Security. If it loops endlessly, contact support.
